Pootles Shrewsbury has been a resident of Sandpoint from an early age. Jargie Quinn, the one legged owner of the Hagfish Tavern won Poot from a band of traveling Varisians. When Jargie learned that Poot had been taught how to perform magic tricks he promoted him from “floor-scrubber” to “floor-scrubber that pulls rabbits out of hats on Tuesdays.” Poot finds some artistic release when he gets to create minor theatrical effects for Cyrdak Drokkus and the Sandpoint Players. However, in the early hours of the morning when his work is done, he lights his pipe and dreams of other places in the clouds of smoke.

Alone in the Dark

Poot continues working his way down the main passage, ignoring the two side branches. Its very slow going, and the passage twists gently towards true north, but eventually the halfling feels a breeze on his face and sees a dim light up ahead. Relief floods through him at the possible end of the passage, and he quickens his step, as he recognizes the smell of salty sea air.

The passage opens into a small cave. A cold fire pit and eight filthy bedrolls mark this as a goblin campsite. Some ratty furs and leathers have been hung over the entrance. Beyond them, Poot sees the ocean. The cave is set into a cliff face about twenty feet above sea level, it would be a fairly easy climb down to the beach below.

Poot scrounges through all the goblin gear looking to refresh his shortbow quiver, or to find anything else of interest. He then begins heaping all the camp gear into the firepit and lights it up. Might as well make it as hard for them to re-use this site as possible.
As he lights up the greasy bedrolls and leathers in a big bonfire he realizes he may have over did it, as the roiling black smoke quickly fills up the cave. Poot scrambles out of the cave to the beach as the entrance belches out the greasy clouds of burning goblin gear.

Poot clambers down to the beach and watches the smoke pour out of the cave mouth. After about five minutes the fire begins to burnd down and smoulder, and Poot looks around to get his bearings.

Best guess puts you outside outside Sandpoint's northern gate, less than a quarter mile hike from the White Deer inn.

Stoked by the fires of courage, (a hereditary response when Shrewsbury halflings have a momentary lapse of judgement and find themselves still alive,) Poot makes his way back into the cave.
He plans on heading back to the Glassworks entrance to report to his colleagues.

Poot clambers back up the cliff face and reenters the cave. not much is left after the fire. The Halfling kicks through the ashes and heads back down the tunnel intending on returning to the glassworks. About fie minutes into the trek however, he sees lights ahead moving his way. He flattens himself against the rock and just as he is about to bolt back to the cave, he hears the familiar voices of Seoni and Yola.

"Ahoy ladies!" he calls out with affected bravado. . .

Ah good we've found Master Poot, - thank goodness we took the right tunnel,

Anything up ahead Poot? We smelled fire and were coming to investigate

"Nuthin' back there but a cave-side entrance the greenies were usin'. I dispatched there quarelsome tribe with a thunderous fireball."
Poot, now more confidant in his magical abilities, causes his lantern to glow a soft green and hover three feet infront of him, with much waving of his hands.
(Poot casts light and prestidigitation on the lantern.)
"Follow me m'ladies. There are many more ebinous passageways for our scrutinous eyes to illuminize!"
With that Poot heads off randomly down one of the unexplored passages.
